On Oct. 1, 1961, Congress asked President John F. Kennedy to designate May 15 as a day to honor peace officers. In 1962, President Kennedy issued the declaration for Peace Officers Memorial Day to be observed on May 15 and the week of May 15 to be recognized as National Police Week. Earlier this week, 394 names were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. The 394 names engraved on the memorial’s walls this year will join over 22,000 fallen officers already there. Today is a day of remembrance for those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Police Benevolent Foundation and the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association have started a memorial fund to help the beneficiaries of Brunswick County Deputy Brandon Gore. Deputy Gore passed Friday night on April 2 due to complications with battling Covid-19. Brandon started with the BCSO in 2015 as a part-time detention officer moving to full-time in 2016. In 2018 he transitioned over to the Animal Protective Services Division. His kind demeanor and gentle soul ...made him the perfect fit to work with animals and became a favorite face around the shelter, greeting everyone with a kind word and smile. All donations received will go to the beneficiaries of Deputy Brandon Gore. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/deputygore

Home for Christmas! The North Carolina Division of the Southern States PBA and the Police Benevolent Foundation has started a fund to help Rick Tullis with medical expenses. Rick is a Sergeant with the Asheville Police Department and serves as the Mountain Chapter President of the NCPBA. His wife Angie is also in law enforcement and serves as a Lieutenant in CID with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office. On October 27th, Rick was admitted to ICU for pneumonia. Further diagnos...is found that Rick had a severe staph infection related to a heart value replacement he had a year ago. This heart value replacement stemmed from a congenital heart defect that he was born with. Since his admission he has been placed on a ventilator and dialysis and was in the fight for his life as one doctor described. On November 27th, after a month in the hospital, Rick was released to an acute rehabilitation facility to help in his continued recovery. Although he lost forty pounds during his hospital stay his recovery thus far has been called a miracle. On December 22nd, Rick finally got to go home. His latest testing shows that his levels are all good, including his white blood count. His CT scan shows dramatic improvement with his lungs. Rick will continue with outpatient dyalisis for the foreseeable future but doctors are giving a 85 to 90 percent chance that his kidneys will return to normal. His recovery and healing has taken a couple of months and the NCPBA and PBF wants to continue to provide assistance to alleviate the financial pressure that these long term medical situations create. Please click the below link to donate. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/ricktullisrecoveryfund 100% of the money received by the PBF will go to Rick Tullis for his care.

The Police Benevolent Foundation and the North Carolina Division of the Southern States PBA has started a Memorial fund for the family of Nash County Deputy Sheriff Jared Michael Allison. Deputy Allison died December 1, 2020 from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident while pursuing a speeding motorcyclist on Thanksgiving. Twenty six year old Jared was a U.S. Army veteran and joined the Nash County Sheriff's Office in 2018, serving as a Sheriff’s deputy for two-and-...a-half years. He was a third generation officer following the footsteps of his grandfather and his father who served as a police officer with the Cary Police Department and with the Morrisville Police Department. Deputy Allison’s service to his community and acts of kindness to the citizens he served is something to be remembered. He is survived by his 9-year-old son, wife and parents. The North Carolina PBA and the PBF would like to join with the community in the support of the Allison family. To contribute, please click on the donation link below. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/DeputyAllisonMemoria... 100% of the money received by the PBF in the Deputy Allison memorial fund will go to the Allison family.
