"Many environmental activists of color were introduced to wildlife and nature pursuits early in life. But they’re keenly aware that historically, many Black and brown children have not had the same opportunities to interact with nature as their white peers. Even those who are raised on farms or in rural areas often have limited trust in those settings because of incidents of violence and threats to people of color there."

"Mangroves are an important protection against climate change, with one acre (4,000 sq m) of mangrove forest absorbing nearly the same amount of carbon dioxide as an acre of Amazon rainforest. The forests also protect coastlines from eroding as intense storms grow more frequent."

Much of the Amazon could be on the verge of losing its distinct nature and switching from a closed canopy rainforest to an open savannah with far fewer trees as a result of the climate crisis, researchers have warned.

Our partners continue to fight for food sovereignty amidst this terrible crisis. The Mangrove Association's support of small farmers has made a significant impact on food security in the region.

Bukele remains extremely popular in El Salvador, driven by a mixture of disaffection with the two establishment parties and declining violence. His critics say he is testing the boundaries of authoritarianism, both in his treatment of the media and opponents within government.

"One of the most affected places is Morrocoy National Park, known for its heavenly beaches and rich ecosystem, including mangroves and coral reefs. There are also many sea turtles. In Falcón state, the oil has reached the wildlife refuge in Cuare, which is home to many bird species."
