Our next meeting is Thursday at 7 PM at 7025 Evans Towne Center Blvd on the 4th floor. Our guest speaker is Bernard Barbour. A native of Washington DC, Bernard Barbour says he was always an entrepreneur before the term was phrased. At the age of 16, after saving money from his paper route, grass cutting business, recycling program, (returning cans and bottles for cash) and teaching piano lessons, he took his first travel adventure on a plane. Saving enough money to take his... first airplane ride from Washington DC to New York and return on a school day without his mother’s approval or knowledge of his secret trip was his first travel adventure. After completing high school and working various jobs, he enlisted in the US Army. While on active duty his interest in real estate began while he was stationed at Fort Gordon Georgia. I had a great platoon Sergeant that introduced me into real estate, he mentored me and took me under his wing. Bernard says. Within a year he obtained his real estate license in 1993. Subsequently he worked for several local real estate firms, then became a Broker and started his own company. Becoming the local expert in foreclosures, his fix and flip, buy and hold, and expansive knowledge of all things real estate in the Augusta area moved him to start a real estate investing club here in Augusta. Sharing my knowledge, experience and mentoring he says is one of the most important aspects of personal growth for me he states. After a twenty year career in real estate, Bernard retired from real estate and began to travel extensively. Although I’ve found out you can never retire from Real Estate he laughs. Living the retired life in Florida, volunteering with sea turtle conservation, bird rescue/rehab. Bernard says he was devastated when he heard the news about Augusta. Less than 1,000 houses on the market and this area being ranked one of the best places to live in the USA. My friends need some help, he says with a wide grin. I’ve always loved Augusta and it is my home, he says. He’s honored to be here this evening and share his story.
