Today a young lady asked me the difference between a therapist and Clinical Psychologist. A Clinical Psychologist is a mental health professional who has specia...l training and can diagnose mental illnesses and identify chronic behavioral/mental health problems. They often work with psychiatrists to determine patient medications. Psychologist can provide assessment, psychotherapy, and participate in research. Therapists can include marriage counselors, life coaches, and social workers. They can have any number of degrees in a variety of disciplines, including a master’s degree or certificate in fields such as social work, substance abuse, clinical psychology, or family counseling.
