IN OUR OWN WORDS: Rodney Mims Cook Jr. is the founder and president of the National Monuments Foundation, which designed and built the Millennium Gate Museum at... Atlantic Station. As a founding trustee of the Prince of Wales’ Foundation for Architecture, he helped organize the design and construction of the Prince’s Olympic Games Monument in Atlanta. His father, Rodney Mims Cook Sr., was a Republican state representative and Atlanta alderman. https://www.artsatl.org/in-our-own-words-rodney-mims-cook-/

In recent weeks, our country has lost two great Civil Rights Leaders - CT Vivian and John Lewis. The State of Georgia honored both men, CT Vivian last week and John Lewis this week, with both lying in state at the Georgia Capitol. The National Monuments Foundation has sent out emails in remembrance of both men, as well as sharing how we plan to honor both their legacies at Rodney Cook Sr. Park at Historic Vine City... Our recent newsletters are shared at the links below. For today's #FieldTripFriday please join us on this look back at the I-Hsiung Ju Exhibition that was held at the Millennium Gate Museum in 2018, which we revisited for Field Trip Friday a few weeks ago. The "Chinese Master Artist I-Hsiung Ju" exhibition was on display at the Millennium Gate Museum from July to October 2015. I-Hsiung Ju was born in 1923 in Jiangyin, Jiangsu, China. He is considered one of a few artists able to blend two worlds of style, technique, and idiom to... produce a unique form of painting that is both modern and traditionally Asian. This exhibit toured Georgia as well, with the exhibit being shown both at the Millennium Gate Museum and the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia. This week's video features I-Hsiung Ju painting a series of orchids. His talent and technique are on display here during these filmed paintings. Please enjoy! This video was shown at the Millennium Gate Museum during the 2015 exhibition titled "Chinese Master Artist I-Hsiung Ju" and is being hosted on the Millennium Gate's YouTube account for educational purposes with express permission from the Ju family. All rights reserved. For those who may be interested, we still have some items from this special exhibition available in our gift shop! We have several sets of postcards with prints of I-Hsiung Ju's artwork on them. These are available as individual cards ($3), or as a mixed set of 4 ($10). We also have 1 packaged set of 16 cards still available ($40). In addition, we also have copies of the book "I-Hsiung Ju's Landscape Paintings, Book II" available for purchase ($15). If you are interested in any of these items from our special exhibit on I-Hsiung Ju, please either send us a message on Facebook, or give us a call at 404-881-0900.

In honor of both #FieldTripFriday and the 4th of July, we're sharing with you today a video that features both an Introduction to the Millennium Gate Museum, and footage from our Grand Opening back in 2008!! The Millennium Gate Museum was dedicated on July 4th, 2008 with a grand celebration, complete with a parade down 17th Street! The day was marked by people gathering together, enjoying music, and fireworks. This year, the 4th of July looks very different, but we hope that you enjoy this video and have fond memories of your own 4th of July celebrations! Wishing everyone a safe and happy 4th of July weekend! Stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming guests back to the Millennium Gate Museum!
