Andrew Carter and Nate Lawres just returned from Lake Charles where Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana did an incredible job of hosting the Long Swamp exhibit. Couple things we want to brag about - the exhibit was received well by a variety of audiences AND our development team did a great job putting together a mobile system which survived the impacts of not one but TWO hurricanes Be sure to follow Waring to keep up with this project and details on where the exhibit will be hosted next!

We recently worked with Kimberly Clements of the Robert Toombs Historic Site to identify a number of artifacts to be used in an upcoming exhibit. These objects will help interpret the experiences of enslaved families at the site including Johanna Johnson who resided and worked in the building behind the main house. Be sure to follow The Robert Toombs House for updates on this project!

We want to hear from you! Waring is developing a new exhibit exploring life and archaeology along Big Indian Creek (Houston County). To prepare for our next phase, we hope to learn more about our potential audiences through a short front-end survey (tinyurl.com/bicsurv) If you have a couple minutes to spare, our team and partners would appreciate a click on the link above. Your responses can help steer the direction and content of this project and create a more meaningful experience for all our visitors!

Victory Selfie (and poses) The Catoosa exhibit team just completed a full collections inventory of the CCHS' holdings - a major milestone during the current phase of the project! This work will both aid the team as they continue on with exhibit development steps and help the CCHS gain better control over their collections moving forward.... Be sure to follow us and UWG Center for Public History to keep up with this and other exciting projects!

Experiential learning happens here. At the Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Archaeological Laboratory, known as the Waring Lab, you will find #UWG students archiving, p...reserving, and organizing our state’s archaeological past. We are honored to have the Waring Lab on our campus, providing opportunities for students to dig into the past for more than 25 years, said President Kelly during a recent visit. The ability for our students even as undergraduates to earn hands-on experience in research and exploration is central to our mission as a university. The Waring Lab is a research facility dedicated to the scholarly pursuit of knowledge about past cultures within Georgia and nearby areas. The lab supports the archaeological research and instructional activities of the faculty in the Department of Anthropology and is a resource for visiting scholars from across the United States.
