Westside club Augusta Georgia 14.01.2021

Once again it falls on me to inform the Westside family that after the National Hills meeting, tonight at 8:30, we will be closing the club for a period of at least 14 days, as recommended as a quarantine period. This decision has been made due to a positive COVID test by one of our most avid members, "Sawmill" Jim G. I have been in contact with Jim this morning and he is doing well and asked me to identify him in this post, so that everyone would know. This morning I have ...been in contact with the Board members and many trusted servants from each of the 4 main group's, this closure came out of the consensus of those conversations. No one hates to see this happen more than me , but I believe it is the responsible thing to do. We are not going to try and restrict outside meetings but we do ask that you wear a mask and social distance. Please feel free to contact me directly with any question... Thanks Scott Shelton 706-962-7197 See more

The Club will be closed all next week July 8-12 for renovations. This will include the middle rooms and the main meeting room. The Backroom on the Coke machine end of the buildings will be open for groups to use for meetings, I know it will be cozy but i think we will survive. On Sunday night after the National Hills meeting i will be removing everything from the meeting room and setting up the backroom for meetings. I will also be moving the coffee machine to that end of the building so it will be available. Please get anything out of your cabinets that you may need for the week before Monday so we don't disturb the guys doing the work or track sheetrock dust everywhere... If anyone has any question send me a message. Thanks for your help....Scott S

The Westside Club is open and we are leaving the decision up to the individual groups whether or not they want to have their meetings. As of today I have talked to group representatives and the Too sleepy to drink 8am, Happy Hour 6pm, and the National Hills 8:30pm group's are continuing their 7 day a week normal schedule... The No Nipping Nooners 12pm group is going to take it on a day by day basis, depending on the amount of people who show up... If anything changes please let me know and I will try to keep this page updated... Thanks Scott Shelton

Big Book Quote July 17th: "Many of us felt that we had plenty of character. There was a tremendous urge to cease forever. Yet we found it impossible. This is the baffling feature of alcoholism as we know itthis utter inability to leave it alone, no matter how great the necessity or the wish." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, More About Alcoholism, pg. 34~ **********************************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 17.06.2020

Big Book Quote July 16th: "Faith without works was dead, he said. And how appallingly true for the alcoholic! For if an alcoholic failed to perfect and enlarge his spiritual life through work and self-sacrifice for others, he could not survive the certain trials and low spots ahead. If he did not work, he would surely drink again, and if he drank, he would surely die. Then faith would be dead indeed. With us it is just like that." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Bill's Story, pg. 14~ *********************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 13.06.2020

Big Book Quote July 15th: "The less people tolerated us, the more we withdrew from society, from life itself. As we became subjects of King Alcohol, shivering denizens of his mad realm, the chilling vapor that is loneliness settled down. It thickened, ever becoming blacker. Some of us sought out sordid places, hoping to find understanding companionship and approval. Momentarily we didthen would come oblivion and the awful awakening to face the hideous Four HorsemenTerror, Bewilderment, Frustration, Despair." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, A Vision For You, pg. 151~ ****************************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 27.05.2020

Big Book Quote July 14th: "Everybody knows that those in bad health, and those who seldom play, do not laugh much. So let each family play together or separately as much as their circumstances warrant. We are sure God wants us to be happy, joyous, and free." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, The Family Afterward, pg. 132~

Westside club Augusta Georgia 09.05.2020

Big Book Quote July 11th: "If we were to live, we had to be free of anger. The grouch and the brainstorm were not for us. They may be the dubious luxury of normal men, but for alcoholics these things are poison." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, How It Works, pg. 66~ ***********************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 27.04.2020

Big Book Quote July 10th: "We have no desire to convince anyone that there is only one way by which faith can be acquired. If what we have learned and felt and seen means anything at all, it means that all of us, whatever our race, creed, or color are the children of a living Creator with whom we may form a relationship upon simple and understandable terms as soon as we are willing and honest enough to try." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, There Is A Solution, pg. 28~ *****************************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 12.04.2020

Big Book Quote July 7th: "In dealing with resentments, we set them on paper. We listed people, institutions or principles with whom we were angry. We asked ourselves why we were angry. In most cases it was found that our self-esteem, our pocketbooks, our ambitions, our personal relationships,(including sex) were hurt or threatened." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, How It Works, pg. 64~ *********************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 10.04.2020

Big Book Quote July 5th: "These men had found something brand new in life. Though they knew they must help other alcoholics if they would remain sober, that motive became secondary. It was transcended by the happiness they found in giving themselves for others." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, A Vision For You, pg. 159~ ***************************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 30.03.2020

Westside club Augusta Georgia 08.03.2020

Big Book Quote July 2cnd: "Opinions vary considerably as to why the alcoholic reacts differently from normal people. We are not sure why, once a certain point is reached, little can be done for him. We cannot answer the riddle." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, There Is A Solution, pg. 22~ ****************************************************************************

Westside club Augusta Georgia 25.02.2020

Westside club Augusta Georgia 19.02.2020

Big Book Quote July 30th: "We began to see that the world and its people really dominated us. In that state, the wrong-doing of others, fancied or real, had power to actually kill. We could not wish them away any more than alcohol." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, How It Works, pg. 66~ *********************************************************************

Big Book Quote Jun 26th: "Henry Ford once made a wise remark to the effect that experience is the thing of supreme value in life. That is true only if one is willing to turn the past to good account. We grow by our willingness to face and rectify errors and convert them into assets. The alcoholic's past thus becomes the principal asset of the family and frequently it is almost the only one!" Hence we are at pains to tell why we think our present faith is reasonable, why we think it more sane and logical to believe than not to believe, why we say our former thinking was soft and mushy when we threw up our hands in doubt and said, 'We don't know.'" ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, We Agnostics, pg. 53~ *******************************************************************

Big Book Quote Jun 17th: "The great fact is just this, and nothing less: That we have had deep and effective spiritual experiences which have revolutionized our whole attitude toward life, toward our fellows and toward God's universe. The central fact of our lives today is the absolute certainty that our Creator has entered into our hearts and lives in a way which is indeed miraculous. Big Book Quote Jun 16th: "We know that while the alcoholic keeps away from drink, as he may do for months or years, he reacts much like other men. We are equally positive that once he takes any alcohol whatever into his system, something happens, both in the bodily and mental sense, which makes it virtually impossible for him to stop.
