We are so glad that Assistant Chief Scott Duggan was able to join us at our weekly training meeting tonight. This is the first meeting he has been able to attend after falling out of a deer stand in early December 2020.

Did you know according to the NFPA Clothes Dryers cause 92% of home fires. If you don't understand why, one of our Firefighters was gracious enough to share some pictures with us while doing a repair on his dryer. Hopefully this will help you understand how lint can build up in the dryer and easily catch fire.(We didn't get a picture of where the lint filter goes but there was a lot of build up in that area). PLEASE NEVER LEAVE HOME WITH YOUR DRYER RUNNING!

The best part of living in a rural community is everyone working together. A great example of that is what happened tonight. All of the deputies were busy and a call came in about a cow in the road on Hwy 76 near Lonzie Cook Rd. Public Safety is first priority for us all. Knowing all the deputies were busy and not wanting anyone to hit the cow Firefighter James Watson went to the area to try and locate it. When he arrived Friefighters Dan Alan Taylor and Tony Aldridge from N...ashville Fire Dept were already on scene and the cow was now in Aldridge's yard. The cow belonged to his neighbor. The owner of the cow came over and got him back in his pen. We are glad the cow got off the road and was returned to his pen before anyone hit him. All of the firefighters involved were happy to help out allowing the deputies to continue with the other calls they were dealing with. Team work makes dream work. See more

This is a wreck we responded to last week. It appeared the car went around the curve to fast on the dirt road and hit the ditch and overturned. The driver and passenger appeared to only have minor injures.

East Berrien Fire Department 17.10.2020

This wreck occurred Tuesday Nov 3 at the intersection of Hwy 135 and Hwy 168. We have had some very bad wrecks there over the years, we are very thankful this one looked a lot worse than it was. The one person in the truck and the two people in the SUV were all taken to the hospital but on scene it appeared there were no serious injuries. We would like to thank Nashville Fire Dept, Berrien County Sheriff's Office, Berrien County EMS, GSP, and Magistrate Court Constable who happen to be in the area when the call came out. Everyone worked together effortlessly to make sure the occupants of the vehicles were cared for.

We want to wish all of our firefighters as well as all of our brothers and sister a Happy First Responders Day. Stay Safe!

Firefighters J. Acosta and C. Sloan responded to a lift assist and helped a patient up off the floor. About an hour later they responded to the same address for... another fall. The elderly patient did not have any family to assist him with day-to-day tasks. He was hungry but every time he tried to go to the kitchen he would fall. So, while F/F Sloan checked his vitals, F/F Acosta cooked him an egg sandwich and served it to him on a TV tray with a glass of orange juice. While he ate his breakfast, they washed his dishes and cleaned his kitchen. Great job, guys!

This is why we train. We hope to never need many of the tactics we learn and practice, yet we learn and practice them just in case.

Just another reason we love the great relationship we have with the Berrien County Sheriff's Office. They keep watch on our stations when we are not there and we keep watch on them by listening to the radio or just checking to make sure they are OK when we pass them on a call or traffic stop. You see in rural South GA we are all one team Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, and 911. If one calls for help we all come. We are family!

Just a quick reminder to never leave your dryer going and leave home. Also make sure you clean what lint you can from your dryer. This dryer was in a camper and caught fire luckily the owner was there and was able to unplug the dryer and put the fire out. The owners are friends of East Berrien Firefighter James Watson and he was there and was able to assist the owner with taking the dryer apart and cleaning it. Using his trained nose Watson was able to figure out the fire had started from lint build up on the heating elements. You see we are not just here to help our community but to lend a hand wherever we are needed near or far.
